Our Associate Fellow Vivek Anand shares his best practices in sub-national diplomacy.
In the upcoming Fellow year, AIA NRW will focus on the topics of translocalism and sub-national diplomacy. In this video, our Associate Fellow Vivek Anand provides insights into the potential that lies in regional and city partnerships as an area of sub-national diplomacy. He also explains this using concrete examples from Baden-Württemberg and North Rhine-Westphalia. In his eyes, aspects can be addressed at these levels that nation-state diplomacy cannot achieve. He sees the three major strengths of regional and city partnerships as being clever expectation management, setting priorities and long-term perspectives. In his eyes, they can lead to long-term and sustainable engagement, from which cities and regions in particular can benefit.
